A Little Bit of Touring

This past weekend, Raging Red went on two day  tours!

Thurs the 23rd--we met at 7:30 in the morning at the pod where we keep our sound system and props :] we were assigned our parts for setting up the sound system (I was assigned mic clips for each of the mic stands) and went to work!  :] We set up in the recital hall of the fine arts building and began our 4 hour rehearsal.
The president of the Athletics club (one of the members of student government reviewing our bill) came to watch our rehearsal and see what we are all about! He got to see a little of our show, and we got to tell him just why going to China as a group is so important to us. It was great
After much sweating and singing and dancing and staging--we were ready to hit the road! That day were performed twice at Coral Canyon in Hurricane :D

Friday the 24th--We set off for Fossil ridge intermediate early in the morning, and got there with plenty of time to do our walk through and set up sound. When we were finished we went out to the lunch room and hung out with the kids until it was time for our show. I loved this school because the age group was a little older and the kids could actually understand the humor of my Solo (Taylor the Latte Boy by Kristen Chenoweth!) They were an awesome audience :D we had a fabulous time!
Right when the first show ended--My dad and his fiancee Linda and my husband KASEY walked in!!! I hadn't seen Kasey in a week, so, being the mega-graceful person that I am, i ran and jumped on him in my excitement and smashed his face in with my shoulder :p

The rest of the tour was AWESOME, and we have such a good time singing and dancing together, throwing all our love and energy at whoever is on stage at the time.
Raging Red really is a family, and going to China to add to our family is a HUGE deal to us! We are so excited for the opportunity and I am working INSANELY hard to raise the funds.

Here's a Link to Taylor the Latte Boy in case you've never heard it! It's hilarious! Kristen Chenoweth is Comedy gold!!

A Whole Lot of AWESOME!!

Just a few WAY cool facts about the Beijing National Library before the goings-on of Raging Red today :]

--It is the largest Library in Asia, and one of the largest on the entire world!
--In 2007 is had over 26.3 MILLION volumes on its shelves!
--Among these volumes, there are 35,000 from the Shang Dynasty. Now, the coolest thing about this is, the Shang Dynasty was so long ago, that the volumes are written on Oracle Bones and Tortoise Shells!! How freakin cool! I REALLY hope I get to see those.
--Volumes carried at the Library contain 115 different languages!

SO cool!

Moving on to Raging Red's Tuesday after the Holiday weekend:

Awesome attendance! Though a lot of people were bleary-eyed and had to use a little extra concealer, everyone was excited to be back and the energy in the room was great :D There was a little bit of nervousness, since Merrilee told us we'd be running the entire show that we'll be performing on our tours at the end of this week! There were some "ooooooOOoooOoo yay!" moments and some "EEK!" moments, but overall it went really well! Hoping to post a video soon!

Also, today Raging Red proposed a Bill to the college, in hopes up raising some funds to go toward out amazing oversea trip! They are reviewing our proposal and will give us an answer next week. Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

Thanks again to Aaron Carr for being my first Donation! Thanks so much for supporting me!!

A Wee Bit of Research

I did a little research on one of our Chinese performance locations today :] Here are a few interesting facts about Qingdao University!

--The University's library contains over 3.5 MILLION volumes
--Courses are offered in 11 main academic disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, natural sciences, engineering, management, medicine, education, and military.
--95,000 students are in attendance there! That's almost 10 times the number of students at Dixie State!
--The campus covers over 3.8 square kilometers, has over 100 research labs, and is affiliated with 12 teaching hospitals!
--Over 2 THOUSAND professors teach there
--Qingdao has over 40 exchange programs with universities in almost as many countries!!

I can't wait to visit this most amazing campus, and to see what college life is like for a Chinese student compared to my own. My world is expanding, and it is the GREATEST feeling. I want to see what's out there, and China is the first big step!

A Little Bit Of Background

As the above banner says, my ultimate goal is to make it to China in May of this year!  Details below!

I'm just getting started on this blogging phenomenon, but I think the closer I get to FINALLY getting off of North America for the first time in my life, the more caps and exclamation points I will use, and the more excited I will become!

For starters, I am a member of Dixie State College's Raging Red, a traveling show choir that recruits for the college, and inspires young children by telling them about the college experience in an exciting, positive way through singing and dancing. It also encourages current college students to get involved. Raging Red is a family in and of itself, it's always growing and changing, getting better and better, and finding more and more talent. My personal experience of Raging Red has been one of the very best of my entire College experience. With major stress from a heavy class load, starting my day off singing and dancing with happy, energetic people keeps me sane and is a great let out for everything that might weigh down on me the rest of the day.

We get to improve our fine arts skills in Raging Red, but we also learn incredible life lessons from one another, and from out director, Merrilee Webb, and amazingly energetic, powerfully present individual who seeks to inspire us at every opportunity.

From Merrilee's efforts and influence, and the amazing success of Raging Red as a whole, we have the opportunity to travel to China after the Spring Semester ends this year! (see the right side of the page for a bit more info!) Our Chinese performances include locations such as the Great Wall, Quingdao University, and the National Library in Beijing :] this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and i am working extremely hard to raise the funds to go, which total high, high on the money scale as far as a starving college student is concerned. Stay tuned for updates on the going-on of Raging Red, and if you feel inspired, if you feel like this is a worthy cause, please, PLEASE, help me fulfill my dream of making this trip by donating ANY amount to my China fund with the button on the right!
